This Blog is about graffiti art and how it influences my own art.
In July 2010 while walking my dogs on crown land between Malabar and Marboubra I discovered graffiti art covering the walls of the old ww11 Malabar Defence Bunkers.
When I lived at Maroubra in the early Eighties I would often take my dogs to visit the site but the walls were clean except for a few scratches. A few old blankets and rubbish littered the site including a burnt out car just to add to the grunge image of the place.
The place is still there but the walls are regularly adorned with some great graffiti art and some rubbishy tags.
The Malabar Rifle Range is still in operation ...if you go and visit the site on a Sunday afternoon be sure to wear some ear plugs if the wind is from the North ...very loud and uncomfortable!
Also noticed that the Malabar Riding School has moved into the surrounding scrub and with approx 10 horses in each group new tracks have been forged and old ones grown over.
Watch out that the novices on horse back don't walk over you with their hack mounts. I was a bit disappointed to see that the horses have damaged the tracks with the constant walking and clambering over the scrub. I guess the horses will have to watch their step though, as there is still lots of rubbish from the the old rubbish dump underneath all that sand.
