The above paintings were completed in 2010. They are all mixed media on canvas and the sizes vary from 100cms to 180cms. When I viewed the graffiti at Malabar I was halfway through my paintings and decided that I wanted to 'loosen up' my style. I have only half achieved succeeding in getting to paint in a more layered and graphic style. I wanted to just slap paint on the canvas and loosley scratch marks on the surface. I wanted to layer and layer and get a transparent look with my paintings.
Time was running out and I was not happy with a lot of my paintings. So I repainted many of them and just ran out of time for my exhibition at Jackman Gallery in December 2010.
I wanted to create a relaxed feel with my work similar to the way the graffiti was applied - haphazardly but with direction and structure.
My next series of works will endeavour to create the loose graffiti mode - if it doesn't work I will go back to painting portraits!
